Privacy
This is a personal website. It runs a small, privacy-first, first-party analytics system to understand how many people visit, roughly where from, and how often — nothing more. There are no cookies, no third-party trackers, no advertising, and no cross-site tracking. I never sell or share your data.
Who is responsible
Jake Abdow is the data controller for this site. Questions or requests: jakeabdow@gmail.com.
What is collected, and why
When you load a page, the site records a single anonymous-leaning row for audience measurement:
- A daily-rotating visitor id — a one-way salted hash that changes every day, so visits can't be linked across days or to you personally.
- A truncated IP address (the last part is zeroed) — never the full IP.
- Coarse location (country / region) derived from that — no city, no precise location.
- The page visited, the referring site, and any campaign (UTM) tags in the link.
- Your screen size and primary language (e.g. "en").
- A timestamp.
I do not store your full IP address, your full browser user-agent string, a persistent identifier, or anything that builds a cross-visit profile of you.
Legal basis
The processing relies on legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) UK/EU GDPR): understanding aggregate audience for a personal site, using the least-intrusive data that achieves it. A short assessment of this balance is kept on file.
How long it's kept
Visit records are automatically deleted after 12 months. Nothing is kept indefinitely.
Who processes it
Hosting is provided by Vercel and the database by Supabase, acting as processors on my behalf. The data is not disclosed to anyone else.
Opting out
The site honors the Global Privacy Control and Do‑Not‑Track browser signals automatically — if your browser sends either, nothing at all is recorded. You can enable GPC in privacy-focused browsers or extensions.
Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your data, and to object to this processing. Because the data is pseudonymized and short-lived I may need extra information to locate any record relating to you. To exercise any right, email jakeabdow@gmail.com. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).
California (CCPA/CPRA)
I do not sell or share your personal information, and this site does not engage in cross-context behavioral advertising. The categories collected and purposes are described above.
